“Stop your troops from attacking Ukraine”, the UN head told Putin Russia
The United Nations: Secretary General of the United Nations Anonerres Wednesday made a personal attraction to Vladimir Putin not to attack Ukraine, a few minutes before the Russian President announced military operations against his neighbor’s former Soviet.
“President Putin, stop your troops from attacking Ukraine, give peace opportunities, too many people have died,” said Guterres during the second emergency security council meeting in three days during the Russian-Ukrainian crisis.
As world leader one after another urged Russia to retreat, Putin made a surprising speech on Russian TV, announcing that he had “made a military operation decision.”
The warning of the possibility of Russian invasion has increased for weeks, when Moscow’s mass troops on the Ukrainian border and earlier this week recognized the independence of two East Ukrainian regions to separate themselves.
Putin’s announcement came after the Kremlin said rebel leaders in East Ukraine had asked Moscow for military assistance against Kyiv.
Speaking after Guterres, the United Nations under the Secretary for political affairs, Rosemary Dicarlo, said on Wednesday there were reports of “large-scale military buildup and military columns that move to Ukraine” and that Russia has a “air close” to a civilian aircraft along the two borders country.
The United Nations cannot verify reports, he added.
The US Ambassador for the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield is a request similar to the President of Russia.
“Send your troops and tanks and your plane back to the barracks and hangars and send diplomats to the negotiation table,” he said.
