South Africa Mourns Death Of Indian-Origin Anti-Apartheid Veteran Ebrahim Ebrahim
Ebrahim Ismail Ebrahim, an antonedic icon of Indian origin who spent years incarcerated on the island of Robben along with Nelson Mandela and Ahmed Kathrada, has died. He was 84, he announced the National Congress of Africa (ANC) of South Africa (ANC).
Ebrahim died after a long illness at him on Monday, the party said in a statement on Monday.
“The ANC learned with deep sadness of Ebrahim’s pass Ismail Ebrahim, we offer our most sincere condolences to the wife and children of him, as well as the family of him, friends and widespread comrades of him,” he said in the declaration shared in Twitter
“The EBI comrade, as she knew him affectionately, was a long-standing member of the ANC, a patriot who served the country of it in different capacities with humility, dedication and distinction,” said the party.
Ebrahim served time on the island of Robben as a political prisoner along with Mandela, Kathrada and others. After his father was arrested twice for challenging the laws that restricted the movement of the Indians in South Africa, he joined the liberation struggle at the age of 13.
He often declared how he had been inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s Satyagraha style, which he used in his passionate representation of the ANC in situations of global conflicts in Sri Lanka, Palestine, Rwanda, Kosovo, Bolivia and Nepal.
Ebrahim was arrested in 1963 and was imprisoned on the island of Robben, where she shared a cell with former President Jacob Zuma, whose role in capture and state corruption later will result.
After the launch of him, Ebrahim was exiled to continue his work with the ANC, but was kidnapped by the Security Police of Apartheid-was from neighboring Swaziland, tortured and condemned to a second term in Robben Island.
She got two university titles while on Robben Island.
After the launch of all political prisoners and the election of Mandela, as the first democratic president of South Africa, Ebrahim served in various capacities, including as a Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Parliamentary Counselor of Mandela.
Sharing the condolences of it, the Human Rights Organization # Africa4Palestine recognized the role of Ebrahim in the AC resolution for the immediate and unconditional degradation of the South African Embassy in Israel in a liaison office in 2017.
The Business and Economy Congress, a branch of the old Congress of India Transvaal, honored Ebrahim with a lifelong achievement award in 2018.
“Comrade Ebie, as I knew it with affection, remembered at that moment how half of his adult life had passed in jail, but that he would do it again if he had to do it because of his firm belief when fighting for the struggle for the Peace, justice and the end of the scourge of apartheid and racism around the world, “said CBE Executive Director Yusuf Moosajee.
“In all my interactions with Ebie, both locally and abroad, it was always passionate about South Africa and her role in world politics,” said international renowned filmmaker Anant Singh in a tribute.
Ebrahim leaves him behind his wife Shannon, a famous Foreign News writer for the independent media group and two children.
