Omicron spreads because of a mixture of factors, say who
Geneva: World Health Organization said Friday that the spread of omicron fell to a combination of factors including the Make-up of the Covid-19 variant and increased social mixing.
Maria Van Kerkhove, The Who’s Covid-19 Technical Lead, told people to think about reducing their exposure to the virus and take control of its transmission, after a week noted a new number of cases.
Van Kerkhove said Omicron was very efficiently contagious between people because of a number of reasons.
First, the mutation allows the virus to adhere to human cells easier.
“Second, is that we have what is called an immune escape. And this means that people can be scanned again … if they have previous infections or if they have been vaccinated,” he said, comments circulated by WHO.
“Another reason is that we see omicron replication in the upper respiratory tract – and it is different from Delta and other variants, including ancestral tensions that are replicated in the lower respiratory tract, in the lungs.”
But in addition to these factors, the spread of the virus is also driven by more people’s context, spend more time in the room in the northern hemisphere winter, and not holding on physical steps.
Only under 9.5 million new Covid-19 cases were reported to WHO last week – a record rose 71 percent in the previous week.
“The public is out there, what you need to worry about just reduces the exposure to your virus,” Van Kerkhove said.
“We want people to understand and feel empowered that they have control over infection.”
He also added that avoiding developing the ongoing covid symptoms was “sufficient reason” to prevent infection of the disease at first.
