‘Borgen’ season 4: Netflix release date & what we know so far
Netflix has just released a new season of Borgen (labeled separately at Netflix as Borgen: Power & Glored and labeled as a stand-alone season) in the Nordic area with everyone who will receive a draw in June 2022. This is what we know about the season will come and when you will watch it.
Made by Adam Price, Borgen was first aired in Denmark in 2010. This series was wrapped after 3 seasons in 2013 and it seemed like this series was done forever.
It was until Netflix saw the opportunity to bring it back.
The fourth season of the hit political thriller was first announced in April 2020 as collaboration between Dr. and Netflix.
Netflix released a 1-3 season from a political thriller around the world on September 2020.
When is the Borgen season 4 Netflix release date?
It was confirmed with the announcement of the series return that the new season of Borgen will premiere sometime in 2022.
In January 2022, it was reported by Times Radio host that season 4 will land on Netflix globally at some point in Spring 2022.
Now we know that the series will come to Netflix around the world in two waves.
- Netflix in the Nordic countries will see the series added on April 14th, 2022. This includes Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, and Iceland.
- The rest of the world will receive the series on June 2nd, 2022.
It’s worth noting that the series is a Netflix Original in every region except Denmark. That’s because the series aired between February and April 2022 on DR1.
It’s worth noting that Netflix calls this season a “stand-alone continuation of the previous seasons”. This is akin to the likes of Top Boy where we eventually saw the early seasons of the show depart.

Mikkel Boe Følsgaard expressed his delight to Netflix about taking part in the upcoming season:
5-6 years ago, I lived in England for a certain period of time. When I told the people there that I came from Denmark, it wasn’t Michael Laudrup, Queen Margrethe or Aqua they started talking about; That was Borgen. Everyone has seen it. Everyone wants to discuss it. Everyone praised him. I hope to start with production and become part of the Borgen universe. I am very happy and proud to be able to continue his inheritance of one of the largest Denmark TV series, a series that has paved the way for great success that Denmark TV has for years, and all of us in the film industry and TV are now standing on the shoulders.
Per fly (bench) and Morgens Hagedorn (Ragnarok) are set to the direct episode in the season 4. Henrik Kristensen is on board as a cinematographer.
What is the plot of the new season of Borgen?
The series’s focus will continue to be in Birgitte Nyborg, which is now the Minister of Foreign Affairs, along with his staff.
Meanwhile, Katrine Fønsmark, who was previously the head of the Brigige, is now the head of the Great Department for the national television station.
The following are the synopsis extended from the extensive outline of the upcoming season provided by Netflix:
“This series deals with some of the biggest political problems of our time; the relevance of the Danish realm in the modern world, superpower battles to control the Arctic – and no less important, the climate crisis. The main story focuses on the struggle for power and power what people do – well Professionally and at a personal level. “
